The final performance of the 2023.24 season begins in one week here in Winnipeg, MB Canada, but just over a month ago Carmina Burana was also performed in Teatro Colón, Buenos Aires, Argentina to enthusiastic crowds. We are honoured to have brought this ballet to Canada back in 2002 and continue working with the celebrated Choreographer Mauricio Wainrot today! https://lnkd.in/g5PKdu8U

For over 50 years, Dr. MacEwan subscribed, donated to and fundraised for many of Winnipeg’s arts organizations. He led by example to communicate the importance and necessity of support to fellow patrons, leaving a legacy of generosity in the Winnipeg arts community and beyond. Peacefully, in his 100th year, Dr. Douglas MacEwan passed away at his home in Winnipeg on April 1, 2024. Dr. MacEwan’s relationship with the RWB was a long one. Beginning in the 1980’s, as a past Board and Fundraising Council member, Dr. MacEwan secured significant donations from fellow Radiologists to build a permanent home for the RWB at our present 380 Graham Avenue building. Following this achievement, Dr. and Mrs. MacEwan focused their donations to the creation of a scholarship endowment for students in the RWB’s Professional Division School. Through the MacEwan Fund, Dr. MacEwan has made it possible for over twenty aspiring and exceptionally talented young dancers to train, graduate, and move on to professional dancing careers, regardless of financial means. In recognition of this incredible gesture and a lifetime of dedication and commitment to the Winnipeg arts community, Dr. MacEwan was awarded the Winnipeg Arts Council’s Arts Champion Award in 2021. With great foresight, this past fall, Dr. MacEwan contributed his final gift to the RWB in perpetuity to the Andre Lewis Choreographer Endowment Fund, supporting annual choreography services and new works for the Company and School like T’əl: The Wild Man of the Woods, which you will be seeing this evening. Through his devotion to the RWB, the RWB School students and numerous other charities in Winnipeg, Dr. MacEwan was not only a champion, but an ambassador for all future philanthropists in our Winnipeg community, reminding patrons that they too, can make a profound difference in the arts and communities in which they live.
